By the time you start to feel thirsty your body is ALREADY dehydrated! And then it takes about 2 hours for anything you drink to have an effect on your body’s hydration levels.

Avoid this by drinking water at frequent intervals throughout the day and make sure you drink up at least 2 hours before any physical activity. You should aim to drink around 6-8 large glasses of water each day.

Tips to increase your water intake;

SIP – Keep a water bottle close by at all times and sip; at the desk at work, beside your bed at night, at the gym, and while your in the car. You should aim to drink 3-4 500ml bottles each day

Start sipping early – as soon as you get out of bed in the morning have some water.

Keep hunger at bay – Thirst is often mistaken for hunger so next time you’re feeling peckish between meals, try a glass of water and see if that helps.

Drink a glass of water with every meal

Try flavouring your water with mint, a slice of lemon or a slice of orange

Good hydration also improves your skin, helps with digestion and helps to flush out toxins and other impurties in your body.

DRINK UP!

All facts are supported by clinical studies reported in medical and scientific journals.)

Avocado

Avocados contain glutathione, a wonderful antioxidant that destroys the highly destructive fats in foods. Avocadoes are also rich in good fats, the type that heals and lowers cholesterol.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are our only decent source of lycopene, a cancer fighter and a free radical destroyer. Cooking tomatoes in a sauce and adding a little oil helps antioxidant release.

Onions and Leeks

Red onions are a great source of quercetin, an antioxidant that neutralizes cancer forming agents. It also helps thin the blood, raises the good cholesterol HDL and has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti fungal and antiviral action.

Carrots

Carrots have multiple benefits, mainly prostate cancer risk reduction, lowering cholesterol, slowing ageing and improving vision.

Broccoli and Cousins – Cabbage, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts

These vegetables, especially broccoli, contain a chemical called sulforaphane that destroys cancer forming cells. This is a potent inducer of enzymes that detoxify carcinogens.

Spinach

Spinach is rich in lutein, an anti oxidant as powerful as beta carotene. Eating lots of spinach reduces the risk of macular degeneration (a disease that causes blindness) by up to 45%. Spinach also reduces lung cancer risks.

Watercress

Watercress interrupts one of the key pathways of developing lung cancer.

Beans

Beans are a source of phytoestrogens (plant oestrogen) and may act as weak oestrogen in our bodies, which has the ability to stop cancer cells from proliferating.

Capsicum

Capsicums have nearly double the amount of Vitamin C contained in citrus fruits.

Lettuce

Great source of Vitamin E – our first line of defence against free radicals.

Our website received an avalanche of hits and reports of buoyant sales suggest there has been widespread interest. Loralee featured again last week and given that the producers only used a fragment of the two hour interview with her, we might see her on our screens on a frequent basis!
