Success to date?
Feb 2nd, 2009, 1:57am This seems to be a very quiet forum - anyway, I was just wondering how far along other people are in their weight loss venture. If anyone wants to share statistics I'd be happy to hear from you.

My stats are:

Start date: 13th January 2009
MVD Start date: 31st January 2009
Start weight: 101.8kg
Current weight: 99kg
Goal weight: 68kg
Exercise: 50 minute walk daily (well MOST days)
Biggest downfall: Pizza

I too am new and have also noticed how quiet the forum is.
I am starting today 3rd Febrary 2009.
Start weight 91.8kg
Goal weight 65-70kg
Haven't started exercise yet.
Downfall - carbohydrates especially hot chips but potato in general.

Good luck and I'd be keen to see how we both go.

Reply #2 - Feb 3rd, 2009, 10:53pm Hi Amanda and Rosebud

Nice to have company in my search for a new me. I only started on Monday, 2.2.09 and am currently extremely tired. I presume that is normal and things will improve over the next two weeks.

Start weight: 89.5kg
Goal weight: 69.5kg
Exercise: 60 minute daily walk, most days.
Weekly yoga. This is only my third week.
Downfall: Probably my birthday next Saturday - I am going to try the wine
and soda water.
Biggest temptation: A cold beer on a hot day. So far so good.

I am seeing a hypnotherapist to give me the confidence to succeed.

Good luck girls.

Reply #3 - Feb 4th, 2009, 1:47am Good to hear from you both - I hope we can keep these posts up to keep in touch throughout our journeys. I think it's a great help to know there are others out there doing the same thing, who understand the highs and lows of it all. Good luck with the birthday celebrations next week Pritch. I have to admit to being less than strict on the alcohol intake, as I do love my wine of an evening. I have compromised however and only pour a half glass of wine and top the rest up with soda - it's quite nice and obviously half the damage.

Reply #4 - Feb 4th, 2009, 7:28am I'm afraid it's going to take me a lot longer to lose my rolls, but it took a long time to put it on, so as long as I lose something each week I'll be happy. I have a husband (skinny) who likes to share a bottle of wine with me 2 or 3 times a week, so I won't be giving that up. I beleive that if you deprive yourself of everything, then you are more likely to crave those things and instead of having a treat now and then, you are going to go back to your old eating habits. My prior history proves this.

I have also personally discovered that if I have my meal at lunch time, I can have the shakes at breakfast and dinner and I'm ok. No hunger pains so less picking.
Just makes it difficult when I have to cook the evening meal for the family. If I have my meal in the evening, I eat twice as much as I should. So lets see how the will power goes.

So nice to finally have someone (now 2 of you) to chat with. Go Girls!!!! Sorry, I assume Pritch is female????

PS Happy birthday Pritch. Mine was last week. Must be something in these birthdays eh?

Reply #5 - Feb 4th, 2009, 10:52pm Hi all
Yes I am female, Kathleen.
Pritch is short for Pritchard, my maiden name. Until Saturday I am 54, the same as the year I was born in.
I am lucky that I live in a "Packed to the Rafters" household. My husband and my three sons that remain living with us share the cooking and shopping. This keeps me away from the temptation of shops and the kitchen.
I ditched the car and travel to work by train for the excercise. I only carry emergency money so that I can't get tempted there either.
It is so much easier now that my boys are older. I always fell to temptation when they were younger. Whether it was making their lunches or cooking dinner. I feel for you with young ones. My advice is to start teaching them to cook between 8 and ten years old. It worked for me. Yoga last night was so hard in the heat. I hope the exercises get easier soon. It will help when I have a smaller tummy. Keep up the good work.

Reply #6 - Feb 5th, 2009, 5:26am Actually my kids aren't that young, and they can cook for themselves, I guess it's just habit that I cook. And I know my husband appreciates a good meal when he gets home. 42 last week with a 20, 18 and 15 year old. 20yr old has moved out.
I'm 165cm tall.

I jumped on the Airofit yesterday for 15 mins and the legs are sore today, but going to increase it to 30 mins just the same. First real exercise I've done in ages.

I have found it easier not to eat when I have a full day of Tupperware parties to do. I made it a rule not to eat at parties right from the start and it has worked. I just take water and fruit with me. If I get home late and go straight to bed, that's good too.

What flavours do you like the most??? I love mangoes, but was disappointed with the mango shake. I liked the banana and strawberry much better. Can't wait to taste the caramel. And still have a few more to try. Glad I got a mixed box to start with, and I can't believe how good they taste just mixed with water.

I'm gradually regaining my will power or is that WON'T power. As in, I won't pick or won't eat that. I actually gained 200g on the first day cos I left it till evening to eat and ate too much. Yesterday was better so down 700g today.

My husband is the only one who knows what I am trying to achieve other than the people on this forum. He has said he'll support me any way he can. Not even my children or friends know. I don't like it when you have a treat and get told, "I thought you were on a diet".
I so enjoy jumping on here and talking to you gals. I hope we can encourage each other and lose together.

Reply #7 - Feb 5th, 2009, 9:34pm I think I've passed the stage where I feel I'm missing out on something by having the shakes instead of the meals. For the first time yesterday I didn't feel at all hungry, and didn't spend the afternoon feeling a little empty. It just seems to be becoming second nature a bit now which is good. I would have liked to have seen a slightly better result on the scales, but hey it's not been quite a week on the shakes yet.

My favourite flavours are banana and chocolate, which is odd because in absolutely everything else I'm a strawberry fanatic, and yet I'm not that keen on the strawberry shake. This may sound bizarre, but for some weird reason I find the chocolate shake a bit more filling than the others. Could just be my mind playing tricks on me, but I'll have another chocolate one for lunch and see if I feel the same.

My first check in is Monday, so I hope I can maintain the good habits over the weekend and get a pleasing result!

Because of gluten intollerance I am restricted to Banana, chocolate and coffee. Luckily I enjoy all three and look forward to them. I am also enjoying my salads at lunch. Are you having two multivitamins each day? I have cut back to one because I found I wasn't able to sleep. Mind you that could have more to do with the hot nights. My weigh-in is on Sunday so I will let you know how I go on Monday. It will all depend on how good I am tomorrow. Have a good weekend.

Reply #9 - Feb 6th, 2009, 4:09am Hi girls.
I too am not feeling as hungry at lunch time and I think it's because our stomachs are shrinking.
I really love the banana and today I had the caramel which is nice. To be honest I am only having 1 per day at lunch time cos I can't give up on my morning coffee, which is breakfast. Going to have bruschetta for dinner with red wine. But tomorrow will be almost a fasting day as I have 3 parties and lots of driving to do. No time to eat and will be home late. Will probably take a shake with me for lunch though on the road.
I have always taken vitamins so no change there. I also take Promensil and Evening Primrose Oil.
Actually looking forward to the exercise which is just not me. Well maybe just not the old me. Hope I can keep it up.
It is so exciting that we all started at about the same time. I weigh in on Tuesday.
Posting my daily blog is almost like keeping a diary.
Have a great weekend.

Reply #10 - Feb 8th, 2009, 9:31pm I'm very disheartened today. After a week of being on the shakes I only lost 300g. Prior to that just doing my own meal plans I was losing 1kg per week, so I'm a bit ticked off as I seem to have taken a backwards step. So I'm going to go off the shakes this week and back to my normal plan and see what happens this time nexy week.

Also, I went to check in today, and after entering the details it deleted last weeks information and has started my back at week one with the new details I entered, so it has wiped out my progress to date. I'm not very happy this morning.

Reply #12 - Feb 9th, 2009, 8:52am Oh dear Amanda. Try not to be too disheartened. At least you still lost some, and maybe there are other factors involved. You seem to be quite active and muscle is heavier than fat. Whatever you decide, please keep us posted.

Well done Pritch. That's amazing and I'll bet you are stoked.

I wasn't exactly strict on the weekend, but as I said, I don't intend to give up on everything. Still looks promising for a successful week. Will let you know sometime tomorrow. Big day out.

I have decided to try and stick with the diet from Sunday to Friday and have a day off on Saturday for as long as I can. I have two weekends away in March so I want to be as good as I can until then, because I know I won't be good then.

Reply #14 - Feb 11th, 2009, 9:39pm I'm still with you ladies, just having a weeks break from the shakes just to see the result. My weekly weigh in isn't until Monday, but I jumped on the scales this morning to have a quick peek, and I've lost half a kilo so far this week, so I seem to be back on track by sticking with my original meal plan. I'm going away camping for the weekend so that will be a bit of a test. Excercise wise it will be good because there'll be plenty of time for walking, and we'll probably hire some canoes on Saturday, but food wise it might be bad. I'll check back in with you when I get back on Monday after I've done my weigh in. I hope everything is going well for you both.

Reply #90 - Mar 18th, 2009, 9:46pm Woohooo well done all . And isn't it the most amazing feeling when you fit into a treasured piece of clothing .

I am as always still sitting firmly on my weight, though this week looks like it is going to be different, in a good way. If not in weight loss in spiritual healh. I am having an amazing time, thanks to a wonderful morning with Rosebud on Monday, a very productive day around the paddocks on Tuesday (weeding, slashing, fencing) and starting yesterday 5 amazing days following my passion... working with horses doing Natural Horsemanship and working towards becoming an instructor.

And today... I checked my PM's and there is a little message and woohoo... next week I will be the proud owner of an airofit. Thank you Rosebud for finding this one *hugs*.

No matter what... this week is awesome

Cheers to all with the biggest widest hugest grin on my face

I had upped the exercise though so that must have made the difference. I took a different route walking to walk this morning and ended up walking an extra half hour. Every little bit helps. Enjoy your airofit Stubby. I love mine. Keep up the good work everyone.

Despite my rather naughty eating habits this week, the consumption of way too much sugary foods and enjoying a scrumptious BBQ on Saturday (all vegetarian though ) I lost weight. It's only .5kg but hey every little bit counts.

I had a ball on the weekend and achieved heaps, extending my riding and horsemanship skills in leaps and bounds. Can't wait to do it again soon.

Woohoo and well done to you too Pritch.

However both Stubby - when she visited this morning to have coffee while I exercised, and to pick up her new Airofit - and someone else last night, say that I look like I have lost in the last week so go figure

I am convinced that my cycle has more to do with it than I realised and that I just have to plug on and be consistent with the exercise and diet regardless of what the scales say. I seem to lose for 2 weeks, then gain then stay level. Will test this theory in the next couple of months. darn hormones.

I hope you all have a good week.

Hi Pritch

I had a good giggle at this post as I nearly read 'housework' instead of 'horsework' . Isn't it amazing how just one letter can make the difference in whether you love something with passion or equally hate it .

Hi Rosebud,

did you know that an average wee weighs 200g and the average poo about 400g? Now ask yourself... when did I last visit the very private room?

I make it a habit to visit it before I weigh myself.

See now... take those 600g off your total gained and there is only 100g left and if you had a glass of water before you stood on the scales... well my dear... what can I say? You probably lost weight and never even realised and that's why you looked fab this morning .

Never ever trust those scales ... Measure yourself instead when you think you are cycling.

Cheers and hugs

Stubby

Reply #101 - Mar 25th, 2009, 4:33am Hi Rosebud. It is so annoying when you are doing the right thing and still not losing weight. (I will ignore the wine). I agree with Stubby that you should be measuring yourself. Did you get the booklet and tape measure that come with the programme? They are very helpful.
Also you said that your airofit doesn't have the time/distance/calorie counter. I have worked out an average using mine. At a reasonably fast pace, ten minutes will on average get you 1.1 ks and burn 70 calories.

Good luck

Reply #102 - Mar 25th, 2009, 7:34am Thanks so much for the encouragement ladies. Down 400g this morning so gradually repairing the wine damage. LOL
I think it's amazing that 3 of us have ended up with Airofits. I upped the time on it to 45 mins this morning. Was so much easier to do when talking to Stubby though.
I just bought a box of shakes and the book on the web for my first week to see if I liked the shakes or not. And what flavours the most before I ordered any more. I already had a shaker from a previous weight loss venture years ago.
I have plenty of measuring tapes around the house but since I have so many more clothing items fitting, I know that cm's are coming off without measuring myself. And the muscles are my legs are really developing and muscle weighs more than fat.
If nothing else, I have gained a great friend out of this. Thanks Stubby. Bring on the shopping days.

Reply #103 - Mar 25th, 2009, 12:41pm Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum and my name is Elise. I am 20 years old and currently weigh around 70kg, but ideal weight for my height currently is 55kg, so I am aiming at getting back towards this.
Although losing 10kg would be fantastic.

Today is my 3rd day on the diet.
I have been having a shake for breakfast, a salad and lean meat (if available, i live on college and don't get to choose the meals.. which is how i put on weight in the first place) and then a shake for dinner.
I have been struggling a little though - i am not a huge salad person, but I am trying really hard to stick to that for lunch. My biggest problem is that I have to go for such long periods without being able to feel full, and while studying at night by around 9.30 I am feeling quite hungry again.
I usually go to the gym for around an hour 3 times a week, but I am recovering from shin splints, so havn't done much else but alot of walking around uni.

Any tips on what I could be doing to ease the hunger at night and in the afternoons? It's quite difficult for me going cold turkey off all carbohydrates (unfortunately my favourite type of food).

Hoping I can get to some scales at the end of the week, would like to know if I am making any progress!

Reply #104 - Mar 26th, 2009, 1:37am Wel done Rosebud. I love that you and Stubby can chat while exercising. That would make the time go a lot faster. Maybe I should stake out our local pharmacy where I buy my shakes to find an exercise friend for myself.

Welcome to Eventingpony. Good on you for taking action at this early stage. I hope you recover from the shin splints quickly, the gym must be painful. I had trouble with hunger pangs when I first started. I found that drinking a full glass of water hourly helped me but that will depend on your access to water. It must be very hard to be good while you are studying. What course are you doing? I am sure others on the forum will have more suitable advice for you.

Hi Amanda and Yamile. We haven't heard from you this week. I hope you are both doing well.
